Cycling

Cycling is a super way to exercise! Through cycling you can improve your fitness, reduce stress and it can help you lose weight. Cycling is also a great way to meet new people, make new friends and exercise together as a family.

Cyclists are all around us and everyone should be aware of each other, whether you're a pedestrian, road user or a cyclist, everyone should try and maintain road safety.

This page is designed to help everyone stay safe when cyclists are involved

Road Safety: Cars

Current rules within the Highway Code highlight that when overtaking cyclists, you must give them as much room as you would a car. When it is safe to do so, signal and overtake safely giving the cyclist as much room as possible. Cyclists may be riding side by side which is perfectly legal and is strongly supported by cycling clubs for extra safety, so please allow for more space when overtaking.

Road Safety: Cyclists

Cyclists must always remain visible when sharing the road. If cyclists are cycling at night, they must be wearing highly visible equipment at all times by using the many available accessories such as lights and reflectors. Cyclists should ideally be wearing a helmet when cycling to help protect the head from serious injury.
