Applications
You can download a variety of apps on your mobile device that can help you manage your health and wellbeing.
Couch to 5k
Couch to 5K is a running plan for absolute beginners. It was developed by a new runner, Josh Clark, who wanted to help his 50-something mum get off the couch and start running, too.
The plan involves 3 runs a week, with a day of rest in between, and a different schedule for each of the 9 weeks.
Active 10
A brisk daily walk is a great excuse to get outside and improve your health. You can start small and build up your time – you might be surprised how much you can do!
Brisk walking is simply walking quicker than usual at a pace that gets your heart pumping. Every minute of activity counts, but aim for at least 10 minutes a day. The Active 10 app is a great way to help you monitor and gradually increase your brisk walking levels over time.
You could walk part of your journey home, pop to the shops on foot, or just get some fresh air. No gym memberships and no brightly coloured Lycra needed!
Mayathon - Be Active, Stay Well, Support a Friend!
It's never been more important for people to stay physically and mentally well and to support our friends and family during this period of social isolation and distancing.
mayathon is a new app and website to help people feel healthier, happier and more connected to a friend, family member or colleague. The app is free, easy to use and hopes to help people keep active during these challenging times.
You can also buddy-up (virtually) with a friend, family member, or colleague and support each other to do 26 minutes of exercise a day. You can use the app to support and encourage each other without even having to meet up.
It can be any activity (provided it is done at home or outside following social distancing guidelines) and it does not have to be competitive. It is not a race to see how far or how fast you can go, just do your best to achieve 26 minutes of activity and help your buddy to do theirs.
It's simple, download the free app to join in.
